CORK HURLING CRISIS FINALLY AT AN END
By Brian Canty
Gerald McCarthy has resigned as the Manager of the Cork Senior hurling team bringing the five month dispute in the county to an end.
In a statement read out by county chairman Jerry O'Sullivan at a special meeting of the Co board and clubs at Mallow on Tuesday night, McCarthy said that he was not resigning for the good of Cork hurling and even described it as detrimental to the long-term good of the sport in Cork.
DEATH THREATS
The statement revealed that he had received threats to his life and that his family had said that it was not worth staying on, while also alleging that senior players had told others not to attend his mother's funeral.
In a 1,000-word statement the Cork senior hurling manager felt he was left with no choice but to resign.
“I have decided to step down as manager of the Cork senior hurling team, effective immediately,” McCarthy said.
